Our History
N.C. For The People Action was founded in 1999 with a steadfast commitment to building a stronger, more equitable democracy in North Carolina. Originally known as North Carolina Voters for Clean Elections, our organization began as a grassroots movement focused on reducing the influence of big money in politics. Over the years, we have evolved into a dynamic coalition advocating for voting rights, structural democracy, judicial integrity, money in politics, fair redistricting and equal representation, protecting dissent, and protections against election subversion.

For more than two decades, we have worked alongside a network of over 30 organizational partners to champion pro-democracy reforms and empower communities across the state. While the challenges have grown, so has our resolve to ensure that every voice is heard and every vote counts. Today, we remain at the forefront of efforts to safeguard the principles of justice and equality that form the foundation of a thriving democracy.
